How to measure your room for flooring.

The thought of measuring your room for flooring can be a daunting task but it needn’t be. Let’s try and make this as simple as possible, so you can get the correct price for whatever flooring you require.

Let’s start with a nice, straight forward rectangular room. All you need to do is measure the length and width of your room and multiply them together. For Example, if your room is 4 meters long and 5 meters wide, the total area will be 20 meters square. (4m x 5m = 20m2)

It would be great for floor measuring if  all rooms were a straight forward rectangle, unfortunately in life we are not that lucky. So here’s what you have to do… Split the room into separate rectangular section. As in the previous example, multiply the width by length of each area. Then, just add the areas of each one together. That will give you the total area that you need.  

 

If your area is a little bit more complicated, you can still use the same method. Just keep splitting up the areas into rectangles until you have as many as you need to cover the area. Then multiply each length by the width of each rectangle to find the areas, then add them all together, that will give you the total area.

Standard practise when you have finished measuring your area/areas, is to add 5%. This is to cover the usual wasted which takes place during installation. This is easy to calculate, just simple multiply the total area by 1.05. That will give you the total that you need to put into ‘Your Project Calculator’ on our website.
